Does anyone know when the plastic transfer gear was introduced on the Mitchell 300?

Dfitz,
According to Wallace's book, Mitchell experimented with the plastic gear on the early 4th version reels. He has one he shows in his book with the serial number C52268 which he believes is around 1951/ 1952.

Thanks Ted. I have a C s/n I’m working on and the plastic gear has 3 bad teeth. I like to clean them up and maintain the original integrity of the design/build. I don’t restore them as I like to keep the used look. I doubt I’ll find a plastic replacement. Guess I’ll just get a metal one.

Contact foakes at https://alantani.com, he may have a plastic gear in stock. He has a large stock of Mitchell parts, used, new and new-old-stock.

Dfitz56,
Believe it or not you can find them on the big auction site. I purchased several there from different sellers.
Kind Regards,
Bill :D
