498

Post by Simone Baschirotto »

anyone have information about this 498X pro version? I own the classic carbon, pro africa, and millennium but I can't find any references for this livery.
Thanks!
Simone.

Hello Simone most unusual all I can presume it's a carbon paint effect that went slightly wrong and found it's way out of the factory . Regards.

Is there any printing on the spool?? Mitchell made " marbleized " reels in 2000 to celebrate that year. Made for only 1 year. My picture has 498X printed on the spool with dots. Could be one of the 1st made and then Mitchell decided to put writing on the spool. Pretty rare reel, congratulations..... :text-bravo:

No printing on spool or rotor by the looks but my point was it looks like a streaky version of the carbon weave affect paint finish .

The reel next to the Pro Africa is the one in my book that Dennis released. Big difference in the pattern. May have been a test model or an employee experimented on their own time. Nice looking reel that raises more questions than answers. I have another book that I can check later to see if it is in there...........

Also, I noticed that the reel you mention, the moveable line pick-up has the same pattern as the rest of the reel. Since it is a separate piece of the reel and the pattern is the same, the pattern had to been deliberately made, IMHO...........

Plus, any serial number on the reel???

Hi Kim I agree paint finish is consistent in Simone,s picture.
By the way the 2 reels pictured are the exact reels pictured in DR,s book I purchased from his personal collection. Cheers
