High Speed 300?

Post by Schrack »

What is the different from the Regular 300?
Just the larger torpedo handle or is the inside and gears modified to turn with a better ratio?
are most parts the same as regular 300?
Thanks for your time.

Schrack,
Are you asking this question just because you have an older Mitchell 300 with a high-speed handle? Just curious.

Schrack,
Like Ted asked, it sounds like you have a Mitchell 300 with a high-speed handle and a torpedo knob. There was never a high-speed Mitchell 300 - Those were the Mitchell Rapid / 350 but they never had a "High Speed" handle with a torpedo knob. The Mitchell Rapid / 350 look exactly like the 300 except for the faceplate engraving and they had a different gear train making them a 5:1 ratio. Sounds like you have a Mitchell 300 with a misplaced Mitchell 410 handle.

Regards,
Chris

Yes that is what I wanted to know.
Just purchased one which came yesterday.
The reel is like new on inside.
However, some kind of strange grease was used, and what a mess.
Reel functioned fine a little slow .
Grease was a pale brown and solidified. Shaft was coated which turned black.
Gears, slide was the same. Soaked overnight will clean today..
I also have a couple torpedo handles that I can put on other reels.
Thanks all for your info.
Just as I thought only difference is the handle.
