Mitchell Reel Forum

I am lucky to have both of my grandfathers fishing tackle. One includes a Mitchell 300 which I have recently cleaned and refurbed. I'm confused about the serial number, 83872. It seems like it would have a "C" prefix, the only other year that might do it is 1953 but the numbers somehow jump to 6 digits quickly. Is it indeed a 1953? I would have been 2.

There are a number of factors that can make it difficult to date a reel. I suggest you take some clear photographs of both sides and post them here on the forum where we can most likely help.
