Mitchell Reel Forum

Anyone know manufacture date? I checked Dennis's Value Guide but the one it shows has the writing and sticker in upright position. Serial- #1225843.
Supposedly 1956. Thanks for any help.

Hi Kim,
Here's my 1955/56 Mitchell (301) with the inverted Mitchell and "a Garcia product" sticker, Ser# 334891. This reel is mint with original box and has the inverted arched type sticker as opposed to the inverted oval that Wallace has documented (I think his is MUCH harder to find), which I have yet to find but I do have a couple of Mitchells (300) with the oval sticker. The inverted/inverted sticker Mitchells (301) I think are kind of special. Have you seen the inverted / inverted Black and Silver sticker Mitchells (301) - Those are REALLY special. I think that this aforementioned particular combination was only made for less that a year as they quickly went to a "no sticker" inverted and engraved "Mitchell 301" Ser# 754172 which I think was in 1956 - In my collection and can provide photos. Hope this answers your question.

Hey Chris great looking reel. Wallace your time line looks good. I don't have any ovals that I know of but time will tell. The reel I'm mentioning has the 301 etched in it's side. That would explain the larger serial number compared to Chris's reel which has MITCHELL only etched. I'm a Left-Handed (hoarder) collector So that reel is sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also as curiosity got the best of me I checked 2 easily available ones I have. 1st- like Chris's but reel a little dirty and same blue 301 L.H. printed on box. Serial- 422467 on reel body back side. 2nd, no blue stamp, model number printed on label. serial- 1930015 on reel foot. The one like Chris's Fair Traded stamped on bottom of box BUT the other one the bottom is a light tan textured color. Never noticed before. More questions than answers...... May have to check Mike D's book on boxes???

Thanks Kim, like you I have the inverted "Mitchell 3_0_1 but none with a Garcia sticker.
I only got home tonight, so I'll have to do some looking in the Reel Room.
