Hello, I noticed a Garcia Mitchell 300DL on the big auction site that has serial # 2866304. According to the dating that puts it at being manufactured in 1959. The 300DL according to the museum was first made in 1961. Is this reel a counterfeit?

The answer to your question is that serial number falls inline with a large production run of bodies/reels used for the 300DL. This does not mean they were offered to the public or presented to people in that year of production (1959), nor does it mean yours is not a fake. But at least it is from a correct timeframe they used to pulled bodies/reels/parts from to make the 300 DL.
