Mitchell 300 DL Serial Number
Mitchell 300 DL Serial Number
Hi!
A few years ago I got a gold plated Mitchell reel. I am curios and want to know more about it. Does anyone here know when it is made? I think the serial number is: 4478099

Kim1987,
to the Mitchell reel Museum.
Based on your serial number, your reel was produced in 1962. They started making them in 1961, so you have one of the earlier ones.

Re: Mitchell 300 DL Serial Number
Kim,
When I was reading your first sentence I stopped and went to the photo. I thought you meant the the entire reel was gold plated! There are a few Mitchell legends that one such reel was made but has been lost to the ages.
We don't get many posts with photos of the Mitchell 300 DL reels. How about posting a few photo's of the complete reel and box if you have one?
Kind Regards,
Bill

Re: Mitchell 300 DL Serial Number
Kim,
It is my opinion that the fish sticker on the front of your box and the absence of "Garcia" on the reel indicate that this reel was produced for European consumption.
I just read your PM, and Sweden makes perfect sense.
It's a very nice reel to own.

C. Beckley,
to the Mitchell Reel Museum.
I assume the reel you have is a regular Mitchell 300 and not a Mitchell 300 DL, and if that is correct the six you are asking about may just a casting mark on the foot of the reel.
For a time, Mitchell placed serial numbers on the back of reel case, opposite the side where the handle is. Have you closely examined that location?

Re: Mitchell 300 DL Serial Number
Sorry been away. You are right there is a serial number on the other side of the reel. 822703. The 6 that I m asking about us located in the saddle where the pole sits. Thanks for your reply.
