Early Handles

Post by Pratt2112 »

Anyone know when Mitchell went from aluminum knobs to the black plastic knobs? Would early full bail models come with aluminum knobs?

According to Dennis Roberts Value Guide, 1952 was the last year of metal knob handles with a full bail. 1953/54 was 1st for plastic knob and black & silver label. Of course as with any manufacture old stock would be used up to make way for new. With Mitchell most parts are interchangeable through the years.

Prat2112,
The early 4th version "Pilot Reels" came with metal knobs. There were also some 3rd versions that were modified with kits that made them full bail by the owners that would have the metal handles.
