Fibre Washer Correct Size?
Is there a purchase source for the smaller size NOS red (preferred) or black fibre washers for the 308 drag spring?
Every fibre washer i buy is slightly larger than the circular-milled recess designed for this fibre washer to seat into.
Lube Drag Spring Fibre Washer?
I have never lubricated my drag spring washer, but i have read some folks recommend a lightly grease applied to the surfaces of the fibre washer,
i am not sure about lube on a fibre drag spring washer.
So, which method provides the best drag operation for using 2 Lb mono line, and provides the matching fibre washer drag resistance for 2Lb line?
308 Drag Spring Washer Size & Lube Fibre Waher?
Re: 308 Drag Spring Washer Size & Lube Fibre Waher?
The Mitchell 308 reels came with teflon washers.
I believe some individuals tried upgrading to carbonex washers with Cal's drag grease, similar to what you're describing. I have not tried that myself and question how useful that would be with 2# line.
You might try searching on ebay for carbonex washers or try trimming your existing washers down to fit.

Re: 308 Drag Spring Washer Size & Lube Fibre Waher?
Hi GL,
the white teflon washer, you refer to, is located at the spool spindle base, riding on the flat of the small spool spindle gear and the washer's recess on the back of the spool shell.
i was talking about a NOS new red or dark blue "fibre" drag washer, which of course is located under the drag spring. I was wondering if a break-In single application would be advantageous.
regarding the "fibre" type drag washer, from my experience of using older fibre drag washer and a few new ones with no grease ever applied, and working with just great success with 2lb line ...tells me to stay away from grease application on Mitchell fibre drag washers.
yes ....you are correct about a break-in single very light application of grease on the 3rd party newer gen "carbonex" type drag washer.
A carbonex vendor said to apply very lightly and immediately wipe off throughly. i believe for 2Lb and 4Lb line carbonex would be overkill,
if you need to use 6 or 8lb line on a high capacity 308/309 spool then maybe carbonex drag washer would be of benefit. one carbonex vendor told me to "mic" the drag washer recess and the would find an exact size match in his broad carbonex washer inventory.
Garcia Mitchell & Mitchell, over the 308/309 reel primary manufacturer years, had different sized milled drag washer recesses.
why i do not know, but makes matching up milled area to NOS drag washers a random hit or miss buying event.
