Oscillation rate

Picked a half bail up today (got excited for a bit but discovered it's a third version)

One major difference compared to my others is how slow the spool moves, it takes ten turns to complete a full up down movement
A 410 that's sitting around takes two as do the couple of others I've got to hand

Is this normal on the earlier models?

Noodle1275,
Congratulations on your new Mitchell half bail. :banana-wrench:
Interesting about the gearing on your three reels; Mitchell 1/2 bail, Mitchell 300, and Mitchell 410.
These all have different gearing. The 1/2 bail Mitchell's have what is known as level-wind gearing. The Mitchell 300 has cross-wind gearing and the Mitchell 410 has high speed gearing.
Kind Regards,
Bill :D

Kind of missed the point the gearing in everything else (bar an 840 which I didn't check)
All work out at roughly two turns the hal bail is ten to get the same amount of spool travel.
This is true for various 300's from a third version up to Taiwanese versions as well as the 350 400 410 440 and the 300s.
