Emile Rochard's reel

Post by Paul Rochard »

Dear reel enthusiasts,

I am taking the liberty of creating this topic to share with you some photographs of a reel created for the millionth Mitchell reel, you will see that it is almost identical to those offered to Otto and Jules Gumprich, except that this one was given to Emile Rochard, owner of La Canne à Pêche.

Kind regards

Paul Rochard

Thank you for posting. I saw the 1,000,000 reel Mike Read purchased at the Daytona NFLCC in 2011. IMHO it's the best-looking Mitchell out there. I've seen the fully engraved ones, but the colors on this are truly amazing. I see it has the grooved bail trip too..............

What a reel!

It reminds me of the French love for Chinese style art known as Chinoiserie from the nineteenth century.

I have enjoyed your posts immensely Paul, thank-you.

There is still so much more to learn. Clearly CaP, the CaP and the Famile Rochard reel are more important to the story of Mitchell than most of us had realised.

I am delighted to have been able to brighten your day with some images.
Research is currently underway concerning the oldest CAP reels.

In addition, the Rochard family is examining old letters to find more information, we find, in one of them, from the 50s, written by Emile Rochard to Jules Gumprich (already business partners in 1937 and probably earlier), the assertion that it was through La Canne à Pêche that Impecco and Garcia & co met the engineers Pons and Carpano.

If one day you come to France and pass through Angers, you will find more information and documents in the Angers Heritage Archives. At least when the file is made public (these are mostly digitized documents).

Kind regards

Paul Rochard
