Hi. I am new to collecting Mitchell reels. I recently purchased a 410 special in very good condition, however it did not come with spare spools. I plan to get it moving a bit above the water but filling the deep spool is a challenge
. Were they sold with spares? And is it possible to fit shallow spools from other models e.g. 330
Serial number of my reel is :9090840
Ludojad,
I agree with what Kim said and would like to add that the Mitchell reel models that have the same type of gearing as the Mitchell 300, like the: Mitchell 300A/301A (not exactly the same gears but will work), 300C/301C, 300DL/301DL, Otomatic, 330/331, Rapid, 350/351 400/401, 410/411, 410DL, 440/441, 440/441 Match, Garcia Mitchell Match (no 440/441 engraved), 500, 510, 540, 300 Pro spinning reel spools, will all work.
You will find that the earliest until the very late spools of this type, were all designed to work for the Mitchell 300 design. Even the newer carbon graphite spools for these models will work just as well.
If that is not enough, the 300A spools, some of which include a removable plastic arbor, will give you two capacities for one spool.(Just make sure you use the arbor and spool designed to work together.) Many of the 300A spools are made of a polished aluminum one piece spool shell, instead of the typical poly carbonate black plastic shell. These are my favorite when fishing a 300 type Model Reel.
Old spools vs new spools have various audible drag notification systems as well as different drag washers such as Teflon (as Kim mentioned) and some of the newer carbon fiber spools have leather drag washers.
Kind Regards,
Bill
