Hello Mitchell Mates - I know the 4th and 5th 300 full bail series Mitchell's are highly rated for build quality and have very good gearing.
When it comes to actually fishing I have found the Mitchell 410 and the 300A Garcia double red band models to very good performers. The increased retrieve ratio can be useful and the roller bearings fitted to the 410 series of reels does make them very smooth. Also the carbon spools and later Teflon drag is an improvement on the earlier reels spools.
What opinions do other members have on Mitchell reels fishing ability ?

Re: Best reel for fishing with full bail ?
Grahamwin,
I used a Mitchell 300 that I bought when I was released from the Navy back in 1963 till about 5 years ago. It just got too ragged looking. Now when I hit the streams, I take a 410 and an old "Fronce" 308. They both work as well as I could ever desire.

I use the 300 (53 thru 56) for larger fish and the 304 for smaller but can handle up to 10# without a problem.
Bought my first 300 in 1956 when I was 10, have not found any other as good.
