I am curious about opinions on Spools.
Which do you think are the best.
Several versions have been made, Plastic, Aluminum, Carbon Graphite.
I have tried several this past summer and found the Carbon Graphite to work extremely well.
It is kinda out of place on a 54, but does wonderful.
The early ones which are Aluminum also work well.
I like to team them up with 12# Orange Stern Mono Line.
Tend to stay away from braided, just don't like it.
Looking forward to your opinions.

Personal preference is for a small ( shallow ) spool in the first instance. I like the early reels but don't bother if its metal

Hi Mitchell Mates the correct spools to compliment your reels version are probably the best ones to go for, but from a fishing point of view the later carbon ones are very good. Mitchell also produced some of the later carbon/graphite spools with a red plastic line clip on the spool side this was very useful if one needed to clip the line for retaining the same distance when casting to the same spot. The spools drag can also be improved by fitting the later white ptfe washer to any of the spools.

Alot depends on where and what you are fishing for, example.
A small trout stream, shallow spool, light line.
Large body of water large spool heavier, longer line Deep spool.
I agree on the Carbon Graphite Spools, who cares how they look, as long as they catch fish!
Second favorite are the early Aluminum spools.
I have a very large amount of spools. One for every occasion.
I Love my Mitchells.
