Very nice Mitchell 540, super rare .
a few things ; the bail on your 540 is a 1976 type , was there ever a DUAL sticker on there ? I see a few traces of glue next to the Mitchell engraving ?
The aluminum 'lock knob'' on the handle is from 1979/80
If you're not going to use the reel change the parts to make it look original .

Hi Ted no not using this one I use a 840 for my autobail fun.
Hello Dries I new about the handle nut but the bail I missed that is a very nice observation Thank you I will contact Hawaiian Ken see if he has necessary parts as for the sticker I don't think so but will have another close look.

Tracey, nice find...rare indeed...perhaps one of the rarest production models...One other observation...I don't think they came with polished aluminum spools in 1971, though easily remedied.

Yes indeed Sandman spool is easy fix . Ken is pretty sure he has the other necessary parts to get it back to the way it should be . As for signs of a previous garcia/dual sticker I see no signs to convince me it ever had one but it is possible of course. I sold my last 540 dual back in 2015 and really never thought I would track down another 540 at a reasonable price . Thanks everyone Cheers.
