Is there a best way to put line on?
Is there a best way to put line on?
I am putting Stren original 10lb test on a 301. The spool has an aftermarket arbor reducer on it. I don't think that I have ever put line on any spinning reel with out it getting twisted. I must be doing it wrong. Thanks for the help.

LET'S PUT LINE ON THE REEL. •
This is basically a two person operation and gives your spouse or fishing partner a chance to help. Determine the proper amount of line needed to fill your reel's spool by consulting the line capacity chart presented in the accompanying Service Leaflet. Purchase that amount of line on CONNECTED spool so there will be no knots in mid-line. For even greater economy, Garcia makes large capacity, bulk spools of line available which can be purchased through your local retailer.
The object now is to put line on the

reel without twisting it. A method that works well is to pull the line from the side of the service spool. Mark one side of the spool "A" and the other "B." As you pull line away from the service spool, note the direction in which it uncoils. If you pull from side "A"
', it uncoils in one direction,
aB. just the opposite if pulled from side
Study the direction that the rotating head of your reel turns while looking at it from the front. If the bail rotates clock-wise, the line must come off the spoolina counter-clockwise direction, and vice versa. Thus one twist will counteract the other.

CDK,
It seems to me like you might be interested in an owner's manual for a Mitchell 300 reel. Depending on where you are located, there are owner's manuals from different country's where the Mitchell 300 was sold. If you are in the U.S. the owner's manuals were put out by Garcia who was the sole distributor for Mitchell reels here. You can find the manuals on eBay still.
Attached is a scan from a 1971 manual since we do not know what year your reel is. It may help you. Kind Regards,
Bill
You might not be aware of it but Mitchell included plastic spool arbors with some of their spools later on. We can't tell what you have but thought you might like to know. If you are wanting to fill your spool with 10 lb test line, then the correct spool for a Mitchell 300 spool, would be a large capacity spool. This means that if you remove the plastic arbor from your spool you will already have a large capacity spool.

Excellent information previous posts. Was wondering why you want/need 10lb test line for your reel. What fish are you targeting and size/weight of fish you intend to bring in? Thanks.
