Jas17931, Welcome to the Mitchell Reel Forum
-They both have a special (forked shaped) reel stem. These reels can only be used on a rod with a special (patented) reel seat .
-The simple answer to your question is that the 510 is the equivalent of a regular footed Mitchell Model 410 only with a special reel stem, and the Mitchell Model 508 is the equivalent of a regular footed Mitchell 408, only with a special reel stem.
-Garcia says the 510 is "Small size for freshwater and light saltwater use."
-Basically the 510 would be used for the same type of fishing as the Mitchell 300.
-Garcia says the 508 is "Very small size for ultra-light fishing".
Do you need more details?
Kind Regards,
Bill
Both reels are what some folks called forked foot reels or Dual reels in Europe.
