Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
:banana-wrench: I love the way this reel casts. Using 4 lb test and I am fishing it daily. Worked out all of the issues of changing out the body. Fishing the previously unused 300 also. Great combo of reels for the public dock. Get a lot of comments and enjoyment. Thank you for confirming. Off topic...

Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
Thank you for your opinion and understanding. I believe this to be a 330 side plate and revolving head.

Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
Spooled with 4 lb test. Free line, Live Alewives for 12 inch snapper. Drag is smooth as butter. Will fish it at 6 am. Will use a Mitchel 300 for the red fish (if and when they suddenly appear).

Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
Took everyone's advice and swapped axles. They look very much the same. Hoping this fixes the issue. Going to a field where I can stretch out 330 yards of mono and respool.

Unresolved issue with 330
I replaced the rotating head of a 1969 Mitchell 300 with one from a 1964 330. Now the spools are filling up top heavy. Not sure I can fix the issue and may have to abandon the project. Any advice? I am on the middle of tearing it down one last time. Will be gutting both reels and swapping all parts,...

Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
Not as simple as expected. The spinning head does not seat as close to the body as it should, so the line goes on in a cone shape. I will be swapping out parts to find a balance. Through working on it tonight. There are actually several combinations that can be tried. The spool fills top heavy.

Re: 330 vs 300 are they the same?
Reynolds 531, thank you for your response. I did a complete disassembly and service on both reels. I did find some compatibility issues but nothing I could not resolve. I now have a 1969 330 that works flawlessly and is the smoothest Mitchell reel in my stable. I'm planning on using 8 lb test line. ...

330 vs 300 are they the same?
I have a 1964 model 330 with a broken foot. I also have a 1969 Mitchell 300. I would like to use the body of the 1969 Mitchell 300 and move the Otomatic to this body. Before I take it apart are they compatible? I'm planning on doing a full service so I will completely disassemble this reel.

Re: Would you add line and put this 1969 in service?
Ended up spooling the large spool with 10lb test. Caught about ten black snapper (lost count) and three were of legal size. Rinsed the reel off, dried and wrapped it in a small towel, then placed it into a camera case. This reel will last me the rest of my life.

Re: Would you add line and put this 1969 in service?
image.jpg . 31.5 lbs. I am thinking 12 lb mono, but would love to hear your thoughts. Will be doing a complete servicing on the reel first. I figure a brand new Shimano, Daiwa or Penn would cost me more than 200.00 and would not be near as much fun. Just seems a waste to keep this sitting in a box....

Re: Would you add line and put this 1969 in service?
I've decided to spool it and fish it. 7 foot, medium action Fenwick rod. Smallest fish:Black snapper 1-2 lbs, The largest fish would be a Black Drum, probably in the 30 lbs range. What line would you suggest? We are seeing Jack Crevalles attacking live baits. (Mostly fish the sound, from a wooden do...

The insert was misplaced many years ago. The s/n faded but the tag is there.

Re: Would you add line and put this 1969 in service?
. I have been using it's brother ( bought both the same year) and kept this one as my back-up. Just seems to always be there. I do need to disassemble it and lube it. Thinking of putting it in service.

Re: Date 1969?
I took several photos of the Mitchell 300, of the red and black square sharp edged box that it came in and the of the small spool with container. (with ribbon tape). And owners manual. But, alas, each photo is too big to upload.
