Re: 308 issue

I'm not sure what you mean by "wider at the front". Is it wider at the top of the spool than the bottom of the spool. If it is wider at the top, you could be missing the Teflon washer under the spool. Pull the drag knob off then the spool and you should find the Teflon washer laying on the...

What does the S stand for

My Brother bought a Mitchell CAP 304S and he wants to know what does the S stand for. The CAP 304S was produced from 70-73 and all other reels with the S on them were produced from 1979 to 1987 according to this website. We compared his 304S to one of my CAP reels and other than the S there is no di...

Re: 302 Problem: Handle Contacts with Bail Wire

Just wondering if you fixed the problem with your reel. I've got a 3-0-2 early model and it has a black rubber bump stop. If that bump stop comes out or disintegrates due to age that will also cause the bail to ride to low and hit the handle. It's the same way for the 3-0-6 reels as well

Egg shaped reel dating

Hi folks, I have a question pertaining to reel dating. If I am understanding the info Wallace put out, any egg shaped reel i.e. 300, 330, 350, 400, etc follows the same serial numbering system. Having said that I bought a 4-0-0 with a serial number of 4043796 on the foot. When I look on the dating c...

Re: Using mitchell reels

I use a 308A, 408, and A CAP 304 for Crappie at least 2 or 3 time a week. I really like the 408 paired with a 5 foot 2 piece Conolon rod I picked up at a flee market. I have the CAP on a Eagle Claw rod which was a gift from my fishing buddy. Looking for 1 more Conolon 5 ft rod for the 308A.

Re: Mitchell 300 reels. Am I dating them correctly

I found another digit in front of the 6. It looks like the S/N is 7654280. I think that would make it a 1967.

Mitchell 300 reels. Am I dating them correctly

Hey folks I'm not sure if I am over thinking this reel dating or not. I bought 2 Garcia Mitchell 3-0-0 reels from an older gentleman and from the numbers on the foot I thought they were made in 1953 and 1954 according to the dating chart. Both reels have spring loaded handles, hockey stick AR, and b...

Re: Using your Mitchells

I use a 308A, a 408, and a 1955 CAP 304 for crappie. Bought the CAP and matching rod for a buck at a garage sale. Also use a pair of early 300 reels as well as a 300C. Soon as I fix the bail issue on my 300A it'll be put on a rod and used too.

Re: 300/300A

Schrack, Hi I am a new guy and I saw with interest about swapping out the 300A bail and associated parts with the parts from a 300. You said you made a modification to do the swap. Mind if I ask what type of modification you made. I have a 300A and the roller just don't work right so I want to swap ...
