Re: Unfamiliar reel definitely Mitchell
The 324 cleaned up and lubed, works well, but,it’s not quite as good a reel as a 300,if your not careful it can get line wrapped up in the rotor area, not that it is a big problem but it did to me while stringing it with some flourocarbon carbon that I had on hand and was wanting to try out( I have nev...

Re: MADE IN TAIWAN, MITCHELL 300
:text-imsorry: But… that’s what this discussion was about, the changes in the 300 to 300a to 300 Taiwan and so forth and so on -we were almost at the end of the journey ,the final level ,the last door ! Does it not seem a bit wrong to stop this discussion now?let’s put it in context….Indiana Jones is...

Re: MADE IN TAIWAN, MITCHELL 300
I will say this that although different with ,if I remember,no parts interchangeability, the Taiwan reels were excellent reels, just as reliable and rugged ,just..uh.. different and I wasn’t aware that that style was mfg.previous to moving it to Taiwan either.

Re: Unfamiliar reel definitely Mitchell
Thanks for that,I did however ,after much searching,I’D my reel,as I thought ,it isn’t a 308, it is a 324.I was unfamiliar with this reel, but now it’s freshly serviced and I know more about it,also the Penn is a small ultra light that seems to have a respectable history with some fisherman I’d like ...

Unfamiliar reel definitely Mitchell
I picked this up at a yard sale with a bunch of other Mitchell items, all in all a good day,can we I’d it it for me? The only words are on the rotor “Skirt” “Brevette SDGD FRANCE” I’ve never had a 308 but it’s small like a 308 ,I’ve tried a 300 spool but does not smoothly install but it looks the rig...

I acquire old Mitchell’s when’re they are cheap enough and I’m there,I also collect old Penn conventionals,I also buy any old rod or reel that appeals to me and is cheap, and has some history or was reasonably fairly well known, price and looks, something that takes me down memory lane.

Re: 300 bail spring subsitute
I thought I was the only one that did that, just thought I was lucky in never wearing out a bailspring,I almost always found that realigning the bail to where it’s supposed to “hang”, which means so that it is basically right in place without the screw holding it in place then the screw can be put in...

I read a couple of older posts on this subject,as to repainting I encourage those who do so to try a product called Brownells“Alumablack”available only through Brownells gunsmith supply( as far as I know)- it is a Brownells product. It is specifically formulated for aluminum and very durable, and als...

Re: Mitchell Copies
I bought a Roddy once because at first glance in a stack of rods at a yard sale it looked like a Mitchell, upon a quick inspection of course it was easy to se it wasn’t but the similarity induced my buying it,I think it and the pole were a Roddy combo and it’s a good reel and rod ,

Re: Mitchell stuf
Sorry it’s been a year! Most of my Mitchell’s are not factory new condition but most are mechanically top notch condition and look clean and well maintained, because they are ,they are nearly all bought from yard sales and returned to good working condition ,by me,as users ,they earn their keep!

Re: Using your Mitchells
When I have to paint a black one,( there are other colors some don’t know this)I take off any corrosion of course, but leave solid paint alone just scuff it up a little and I prefer to use a paint called Alumablack from Brownells Gunsmith supply’s, or satin black engine enamel and bake it in the oven...

Re: Using your Mitchells
I use mine fairly regularly, mostly catfish in,to me they are just as good as any other reel, but I’m no perfectionist,I only require that the reel gets my bait or lure out there and brings it back in,hopefully with something attached , my wife has bought me 2Pfluegers and they are wonderful but I do ...

It seems to work fine ,I have yet to use it ,it came with a pole - I have not id’d the pole but the reel exterior cleaned up nice I have not look...

Can I throw this in,I’m new here however not new to working on reels,Guns and mechanisms of various sorts, polishing cannot fix a malfunctioning thing of any kind it can only make a properly functioning thing work smoother,so whatever you work on should be working right first,if a bail is twisted it ...

I thought about it,you would have to unchrome them ,polish, and rechrome this is based on my own thoughts on chrominance, limited knowledge at best,I also think ,it would not be an extravagant layout to do small parts at home,a learning curve is neccesary.

When did the bail become “Stainless Alloy” all of mine are brass or maybe bronze chrome plated,I’m betting brass.I own 6 ,5 righty’s ,1 lefty, one righty is a Taiwan,a bit different mechanically but still a reliable and tough reel
