The Mitchell 358 is the speedy brother of the 308 and to emphasize this difference they used a green handle knob . the same for the Mitchell 350 'Rapid" The Mitchell 314 had also a green dragknob to mark the difference between 304 Cap and 314 Cap super . Only used in France -Belgium (Arca) Germ...

I have the full range of Mitchell 358 reels and they only have a green handle knob
the 314 is the only one with a green drag knob

Just got this nice Mitchell 510 Special with Conolon rod , box and papers
The rod is completely unmarked and I have never seen this before .

The first thing that comes up if we're talking the sixties is the Mitchell 302 .
It was advertised as Mitchell 302 ''Mer -Saumon '' in France

Hi Don , The answer to your question is that sometimes there is corrosion on the bearings on one side of the pinion . Mostly the side where the pinion is screwed into the rotor . Without lubrication the bearings dry up on that side and moist does the rest . The side of the pinion gear is usually bet...

17 on each side .
It,s better to disassemble the pinion and clean it .
Make sure that the bearings go into the right side .

Hi Chris,

The combo that i have used was a 508 Special and a Conolon 231 E1 3-14 gr Albatros 1.65 m rod.
I have a few of these rods so I used the one with some wear on it.
It is an ultra light combo to cast 5 gr lures .

It was good fun ,you should try yours !
These combo,s turned out as a failure for Mitchell but are a dream to collectors .
About 80% of the production went to the U.S !

Hello Mates, Today I went fishing and took a 508 combo with me for the first time . I was surprised how easy and smooth I could cast a light spoon with it . After a few minutes i got a first strike and a little pike lost the battle on the 508 combo a few small perch followed . A joy to fish with IMG...

Your spool could be a spool from a 406 A which is a pollished one .
Maybe you can show a picture .

The 306 was advertised as a heavy fresh water and a light saltwater reel so a combination reel
I think they cut it short to Combi .

My Mitchell 308/358 are always first choice for light spinning .
The 300 and 350 are used for carp fishing >

Here a picture of the nylon gears and as you can see one is damaged
If the reel is for display don,t change the gear to keep it original

if you're going to use it for fishing put a metal gear in it .

Hello Mates ,

Got this Mitchell 304 box with booklet .
Many of these boxes have been made and also many have been thrown away ..
The box came with wear and tear but with a little work I was able to get this result

Very special reel ! It looks like a try -out version from ''bureau d'etudes '' that was made just after the Mitchell Rapid .
Maybe one of the first with the new style AR lever.
Congratulations with this find.
