From 1958 to 1979 The Garcia Corporation sold magazines to the public called "Fishing Tackle Annual" from 1958 to 1960. In 1961 these were called just "Fishing Annual" to their last true "annual" in 1977. During Garcia's unfortunate closing in 1977/78, these magazines were issued in 1978 and the last in 1979 but were called just "Fishing" for a simple reason. The Garcia Corporation we think of did close but NOT another separate company called Garcia Tackle. All of these mentioned were consumer catalogs they sold to the public. Other Garcia magazines not sold to the public can be seen under Garcia Tackle Catalogs.
You will see the first two appear to be the same but they’re not on the inside as you can see by there Table of Contents. In June, 1958 Field & Stream Magazine released their 1957 46th annual fishing contest winners. In the 1958 Annual the name of the winners are also listed In the 1959 Annual the contents (index) changed along with new advertisements. Why they kept the cover page and a lot of this annual the same for two years is a mystery.
None of the first Annuals had dates on them until 1964 which was common back then. You should also know these are great collectibles but because of overstock, you will sometimes find the photographs of reels being the older models and not the newer models that were available. You will also see a few incorrect artist renditions on some models as a marketing tool but they're still a great source for information and memories!
