Mitchell 782 Graphite fly reel

Post by burnsie2000_2000 »

Hello All,
I have a Mitchell 782 Graphite fly reel that I purchased at a flea market.
It seems to be all there except for what might be a missing drag screw and counter spring?
The drag is not operating properly as it cannot be set or adjusted.
I have not been able to find a schematic for this reel yet.
Does anyone know of where I can find a schematic to check for missing parts?
Thanks.
Steve

Hello Ted,
Thanks for posting the link to the schematic for the Mitchell 782.
What I found is that not only are the Lever spring screw and Anti-Reverse Lever spring missing, but 5 of the bronze and fiber drag washers are missing too. The rest of it looks OK. So; some owner before me either lost or took these out of an otherwise pretty nice reel.
I think Dick's Reel Parts may have some of these.
I'll keep looking for these parts: 8410 x qty=2, 84809 x qty=2, 84808 x qty=1, 84822 x qty=1 and 84823 x qty=1.
These are the "guts" to the drag assembly.
Apparently these "Moocher" style reels are fairly pricey on ebay.
I got this one cheap with an Ugly Stik: BWF 1100 9'0" (10-11 lb. Fly Line) rod.
I actually fished it as is last week from a jetty at the beach with a tapered sinking tip section 9-10 wt dry line and could cast about 50' in no wind.
Typically these rigs are better for trolling.
Thanks for helping.
Steve
