Here we have a Mitchell 300 Garcia in good condition, it came with the red and black plastic box but no serial sticker on the box and contained Balzer papers as the reel came from Germany.

The reel has a clear serial  0062303 which sounds indeed very strange , but the first zero's are cleary printed into the feet, no doubt about this.

If you look to the model  I would expect the reel to be from around 1977/78 and the first character should be maybe a G , but its clearly a zero.

Mistake in the mitchell factory or something ?

Regards
Otto

Hello Otto

I saw a serial number similar to this a while ago, it was also on a 300.
However on the one I had the first zero was incomplete and I assumed that it was a badly formed "G"
Your post makes me think again, is it possible that a few double zero's were made before anyone realised the mistake.

Oh by the way, the spool on your reel is older that the rest of the reel, mid 1960's or earlier.

Kind regards Roy

Hi Roy,

Thanks for the comment, the reel has now the correct spool from my stock of spare spools.

Regards
Otto

Hello Otto

I'm pleased I could help.
Now that you have brought this to our attention it will be interesting to see if any more reels turn up in the future with a double zero at the start of the serial number.

Kind regards Roy
