Hello,

I'm seeking information about this old Mitchell reel that I would like to sell, and also its approximate fair market value. Also, would eBay be the best forum to try to sell it?

From looking at the Mitchell Reel Museum Dating page, my best guess is that this is a non-marked 4th version model 300, but I know there are many models, so not very confident in that assessment. Also, any other pertinent information that I should know about this reel would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS I see that the reel is set up for a lefty, and the side plate is also upside down...has this been reversed, or did it come this way from the factory?

Greetings pj234,
The most common problem with getting pics attached is that they have to be sized smaller than 750 pixels when you upload. Have you tried that yet?

Regards,
Ted Lanham

Hi Ted,

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

No, I'm not sure how to do that. Is that done during the process of uploading the attachments, or do I need to figure out how to do that beforehand?

Hi pj234,
On either my laptop, or my desktop I have to bring the pics up and then edit then to get them below the 750 pixel size. I have PhotoFiltre program that me it easy for me, but if you are trying to do it on a cellphone, I can't help.
Regards,
Ted

pj234,
Your reel is the left handed model that later was called a model 301, and it was made in 1954.
As far as value goes, unfortunately, someone has ground down the reel seat on the reel. That hurts the value.
For the last several years eBay has been the place to sell most vintage, so that would be where I would go if I were you.

Regards,
Ted Lanham

Thanks for the photo help and info, Ted!

Can you give me a guess on approximate value, and a fair asking price on eBay in the condition that it's in?

pj234,
Just a guess with the ground down reel seat, $20/$25.

OK, thanks again very much Ted for all of your help! I'll see what I can do with it on eBay.
