Yesterday was a good day. I was fortunate and picked up a new rod and reel, met a very nice guy and listened to some great stories... I saw an ad locally yesterday morning for a Garcia rod and reel, so I called immediately and when I went to look at it, I couldn't believe how nice it is. It is an incredibly nice N-548A four piece fly rod. It's 7 foot and is rated for 6 pound line. I bought it from the original owner and it is in incredible condition. It's still in the original Garcia plastic bag, and in the original tube. It also came with the original Garcia Kingfisher GK-40 reel that he bought the same day, and it could pass for new. I will post pictures later but am wondering if the GK-40 is an uncommon size in the Kingfisher reels ? I did some quick searching and have found very little. I did a completed auction search on ebay and while I found several GK-42 and GK-44 reels, I couldn't find any GK-40's. Even a Google search didn't offer much. Thanks Mike |

Hey Mike, From a quick review of my catalog library, it looks like the N548 rod was first offered in 1975 and a few years thereafter. "A" for light lures/lines is from a list of alphabet groupings Garcia used. It looks like the GK-40 may have only been offered in 1977/78 compared to several years for some of the other GK fly reels. That, combined with the GK-40 being recommended for 4 weight line, may account for fewer copies being available. John Attachment: 7700 Garcia Annual 035a Kingfisher.jpg

Thank you for the info and great pictures John. I really appreciate it. I love seeing the old ads. |
