I mentioned in another thread that I had acquired a Garcia Conolon 5-Star spinning, as well as a 12' surf rod I matched up with my new 302.

Here's the spinning rod I bought on ebay for $36. The tip had been crushed, the guide frames had some corrosion and the cork was dirty, but otherwise it was in good shape. I quickly replaced the tip (although not with the original agate). The nickel-silver frames on the guides and the cork cleaned up easily with a Brillo pad.

I matched it up with my oldest 300. After a rebuild, this is also my smoothest and quietest 300:

Hey garthg,

Agate guides on a 1970s rod caught my attention. From your photo I can make out the model# = 2112-A. Its series is the Garcia "Deluxe" series. Images above match. I did crack open a 1972 Annual to see the 2112 there, but with a black reel seat and gold metal.

Nice rod.

John

Thanks, John. I guess that dates it. The reel is from 1964. It's a great combo. I'm looking forward to trying it as soon as the ice thaws.
