Better pics?

You do know that you don't use both reels at the same time.

garthg, he was probably using for demonstrative purposes unless your were joking around. Is there any labeling or numbers on the rod in the usual place?? I believe it was put together rather nicely by a skilled builder so the owner could fish either was. Conolon used the same idea on their pack rods but you turn the end around to make it fly or spin.

piscesman,

Ferd72 has at least 4 threads on this same item/topic.

I believe the one linked below has the most information. No reply as to whether there is a visible model number.

More data on my what is it rod

Hi john,

pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
If I could delete this post I would!

There is only only the Conolon label on the rod.The number below Live fiber is obscured by trim wrap. I will not hazard a guess

Fred

Ferd72,
As a moderator, I may be able to zip this. I've deleted individual posts, but not a whole string, if that's what you would want, I could try.

Regards,
Ted Lanham

Ferd72 and Ted,

Thank you for your work!

Since Fred says he read all the replies he received, I repost here my reply to an earlier Fred thread on this same rod/topic:
Quote:
That looks a Narmco Conolon decal from the early 1950s. See if you can make out a model number (like F-78 in the example below), that would tell you something about the blank.

There are a number of features that indicate your rod is not a production model, but rather a custom redo: dual reel seats [usually reel seats could be swapped out (exchanged) in a dual function rod - if am I remembering correctly]; different colors for the reel seats; odd position of cork for spinning reel; and, finally, how the decal was partially covered with wrap.

Some further comment.

Early 50s - the indication is 1951-54 for this decal. I would check catalogs for potential model numbers based on length, but the line guides don't appear to be original either - so who knows was it fly or spinning originally. About the awkward cork for spinning, I personally prefer some cork above the reel, not just below.

Although certainly, I would expect this to be a soft/slow action fiberglass rod consistent with the era.

John
