Greetings All, I recently purchased a Garcia Mitchell 300 reel at a swap meet that is in need of some attention. Fortunately I discovered this Mitchell site after some searching. There is a lot of information here. I am trying to determine when my reel was made. The dating page states that in 1949-1950 reel serial numbers were preceded with an "A". Further down in a different paragraph, it states that in 1971 serial numbers were preceded with an "A". I would like to determine when my reel was produced so that I may get the correct schematic to repair my reel. The serial number of my reel is "A731076". Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings fixitdad,
Welcome to the Mitchell Reel Museum.
The 50's era 300 with the "A" prefix only had 5 digits following the "A", so yours would be a 71 vintage.
You can find out more about the difference in the vintages by visiting the "Gallery" , then the "Mitchell Reel Photographs", then select the 300.

Regards,
Ted Lanham

Thank you for clarifying the production timeframe. I figured it was manufactured in the 50's or 70's, just could not narrow it further than that. This is a great forum with more information that I ever imagined.
