Is it possible to put a date of manufacture on a Mitchell 3-0-4 (CAP on Housing) 4th Version. with serial number on the casing of 182331 ?

Tia.

Hi Lee,

Your CAP would have been manufactured around 1957-58. There should also be C.A.P. on the plastic drag knob. The Serial # as you said is on the body (upside down as if observing the reel would be hanging from a rod) vice the reel seat. North American distribution would have an arched, yellow/black "a Garcia product" sticker on the faceplate (which may be missing) and European distribution would not. It would have come in a blue two piece box with Mitchell 304 on the cover in gold script. A very nice reel - hope this helps.

Regards,
Chris

Thanks Chris.

The reel is just as you've described it, but no box. It,s a European version.

Came with a shallow spool.

Lee.

Hi Lee,

Very nice reel. If you spray the bail with WD-40 and scrub with a soft toothbrush, it will remove that old oil/grease residue and shine the chrome at the same time. Great find.

Regards,
Chris
