Hello Pet1968,

Welcome to the Mitchell Museum :sSig_welcome4:

The Mitchell 204 was the smallest reel in the Mitchell 200 series (204, 206, 208 and 218) made from 1973 to the mid 1980s. This was one of Mitchell's lower end (economy) series of reels but are surprisingly well made. Your 204 (No Garcia) was made for European distribution and would have come in the black "Mitchell Technical Perfection" one piece box with or without the "window placard" depending on the year of manufacture. The Garcia Mitchell 204's were made for North American distribution and were issued in black "Garcia Mitchell Spinning Reel" one piece box with or without the "window placard" depending on the year of manufacture. The serial number which is stamped on the reel seat (horizontal part where it attaches to the rod) will determine the year of manufacture. It will start with a letter "A" is 1971, "C" is 1973, "F" is 1976 etc.. Hope this helps :tup

Regards,
Chris

Also as I was told the European economy reels came with a metal rotor but the American ones came with a plastic rotor.
