Have looked through the posts and elsewhere to no avail. A basic question: what is the capacity of the small spool on the Prince 314? Understand larger spool is 160 yards of 10lb mono, but please correct if wrong. Thanks, RF

Greetings RobertFowler,
Welcome to Mitchell Reel Museum!!
I found this ad for Garcia 314 in the Gallery at the top of this page.

I would imagine the spool capacities would be the same as the 314 Prince. Look at the chart for 1959.
Regards,
Ted Lanham

Hello RobertFowler,

Welcome to the Mitchell Museum :sSig_welcome2: .

The line capacities for all of the Mitchell 314s are: Large spool 4#-360 yds, 6#-300 yds, 8#-225 yds. Small spool 4#-150 yds, 6#-100yds, 8#-90 yds, All of the spool dimensions for the 314 are the same as this spool design only fits on the Mitchell 314. With todays smaller diameter monofilament and braided lines the capacities can be slightly greater. In my experience, monofilament casts better on the 314 than the braided lines - but you may have a different experience.

I'm not familiar with the Prince 314. The "Prince" label is normally associated with some of the European distribution Mitchell 308s/309s. All of my Mitchell 314's are Garcia, Albatros, ARCA, BHV, Balzer or just plain Mitchell. I would be very interested in seeing a Prince 314.

Rehards,
Chris

Thanks to you both, had not expected such a rapid response, and providing all I needed. I had always thought of it as a Prince since I first bought it, in the first half of the sixties, but it is, I now realize, a 314, a plain Mitchell. As a youngster used it for smallish carp with a RW Mark IV Avon, which I also still have. Is an excellent reel for float-fishing, too, though I also use centre-pins.
