Recently acquired this early Mitchell reel. It has an extra spool and user manual that is in french. I think it is a second version. I will try to post pictures. If someone can identify it please help. Does anyone know the value.

2nd version due to the round anti-reverse knob, but late due to the handle knob being metal.

Gallery explaining version differences.

This also shows the spools for 1st and 2nd versions.

A nice one if legit, can be worth a nice amount, but be aware that some people do refurbs without disclosing such. Hopefully it was found on a closet shelf or bought from an old lady at a yard sale...otherwise, would have to examine it in closer detail to confim.

Thanks very much for the info. Yes it was from a woman that said it was her grandfathers. It was in a metal box with some old jitterbug and bat lures. The reel also has no serial numbers just the made in france marking.
Thanks again Bill

Then an exceptionally nice find, the very early reels did not have serial numbers.

Having the correct spools is a boon too.

Shows how yard and garage sales can blow away ebay.

Hey cudabr,
Your reel looks like a very nice find. I especially like seeing the 2nd version paperwork.
Thanks For Posting,
Ted Lanham
