Mitchell 410a's with the same serial number

Post by Clivey »

Hi folks,

I have had 2 good conditioned Mitchell 410's for a few years (one is still boxed), i bought these of someone who said they had bought them from new some time ago.

I recently gave them a good clean with a view to selling them on and as i did i noticed they both have the same serial numbers, not one or two sequential numbers out but exactly the same ! L293110 to be precise.

Is this unusual or is it a known anomaly perhaps as the quality control declined in later years ? :o

many thanks

Clivey

From 1971 Mitchell used a system that gave every reel made on a given day the same serial number.

Yours would be 1981and this should explain the system:

According to this your reels were made on the 20th October 1981 on Production Line One.
