A local pawn shop had a few reels along a back wall. The owner said he had one real old Mitchell 304 he'ld let me have for $97. Uh, yeah. I walked back, took a look and nicely asked to examine the reel. It's an Ashaway Slip Cast http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/honest-angler/2011/05/vintage-tackle-contest-ashaway-slip-cast-reel

True, it does look vaguely like a stripped 304. Apparently Charles Ritz had a hand in designing this but so far I have not been able to verify whether this is a myth or fact.

Soon as I get it cleaned up, I'll add photos.

No, I didn't pay that much. I did spring for $40 just because it was made by the Ohio Tool Co. and I also collect and sell old tools.

Hi Gary,

I know it's been a while, but I'd like to see the pics and learn more about the possible Charles Ritz connection... If possible?

Regards,
