Greetings to all

At this point I am assuming that this has been done at some point after manufacture.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this on a Mitchell reel?

Kind regards Roy

Hi Roy,

I have seen this crinkle finish on a beat up Mitchell (300) 3rd version but it is dark green. I've also seen one look-a-like that was made in Japan appearing to be the same finish as yours. Wonder why?

Best Regards,

the crinkle finish is for better grip as fishing gets your hands wet and the reel slippery.Just picked up a No 390 Japan made 300 Mitchell look alike with this finish.Just joined my first post hope I am doing it right.

I don't know If the crinkled finish was made 2 Help grasp the reel. After all the reel is attached to the pole which you would then be holding your hand. I think it was for appearances or to help hide runny paint jobs. Would be hard to tell runs with that finish. I work in the HVAC trade and see that finish quite a bit. 70's to present. A shame theydid it to a half bail on a CAP.
