rowboater, :sSig_welcome4: to the Mitchell Reel Museum!!

The box insert you describe comes in two main types. One with spool cut out and one with spool container cut out. Earlier reels came with spool cut out. The transition to container cut out occured around the 130000 serial number. Photos of each below. The earlier spool cut out, as you would imagine, is more difficult to come by. Additionally, if it matters, later inserts did not have the model number printed (beginning around 240000). There a few other differences too, again, if it matters, the insert design incorporated a rotating head cradle, which changed the reel cut out configuration...not sure how picky you are to have the period correct insert to the reel. I don't have any spares at this time. Which one are you looking for? If you provide the SN we can tell you which insert was original.

rowboater, this is the box insert that came with your reel. Note it has a stand, or cradle, for the rotating head...an opening for a spare spool container (vs just a spare spool) and no 308 printed....though, most people would not know the difference as long as you had a paper 308 insert....these inserts/boxes come up occasionally.
