Same handle as the 303, 403 and 307 plus others. BIG round handle or TORPEDO?? What color of handle?? Black or grey?? Go to e-bay and search for Mitchell handles using the numbers I gave you and yours. Should have several pop up. They go for $13 - $20 plus shipping. Does yours have a dust cap?? If not then you can take the one off the new handle. Good Luck...........

Hi surf reel,

Unfortunately the threads are different between the left hand and right hand reel handles so you're going to need a handle for a 489 or 499 for the proper length and thread.

Regards,
Chris

Never realized shank was longer. Figured since reels were same size they would interchange. Will check my 488 and compare handle length.

Well I have egg on my face. I checked my 488 handle and compared it to the others with the ball grip. 1/2" longer. Never knew. While looking at my literature it only lists 488- 489-498. NO 499. On box reads, "New with Inertia Brake, Magnum". I guess mine was made before the 499. You could try on e-bay " The Fisherman" for parts. He has a big supply and has been in business including father 30 years +. Good Luck in your search. Thanks for making me wiser...
