Greetings Mates,
I found myself in possession of a 1953 era Mitchell today was very pleased to find that it was one of those short lived versions. When I tried to see just how stiff that original grease was, I notice a slight wobble of the spinning head. I thought that the wobble may have been just a missing shim, but soon realized that the gear on the back of the head was cracked all around the gear and was causing the head to wobble.
So, would be any of you mates that might have a mint spinning head from that era without screws holding the balance weight?
I know this is a big request, but it never hurts to try and put this great outfit back in perfect condition.
Regards,
Ted Lanham

Hey Ted,

I have one here but know not where. It's one complete that I saved from one with a broken foot. I'll try to find it and let you know but others, please let him know if you have one NOS.

Regards, Wallace

Wallace,
Thanks for all your help. This reel is one of the very early 4th versions and it would be an injustice to put one of the newer heads on it.

Ted,

I agree totally, the one I have somewhere is the older 1950s head with no counterweight screws. I do hope I can find it but I've boxed everything up, like a needle in a haystack :bored

These old style heads are out there, just trying to get someone to look is always the problem. Perhaps one of our members can help 8o

Regards, Wallace

Wallace,
I'm a very patient fellow and I've been known to search for years for needed items, so I'll eventually find a head. Of course, I keep forgetting that I don't have as much time left as I did 20 years ago. HaHa!

Ted Lanham

Mates,
Just in case you were looking for the rotating head that posted about on this string.
I was able to find what I needed.
Life is good.
Regards.
