S/N with a 3 stamped at end of seat

Post by jramos1 »

I own a Garcia Mitchell 300 with the S/N D164107 and there is a 3 stamped in a large font away from the serial number. I have never seen a large number like this 3 in this location before. The 3 is at a slant compared to the S/N. What does it mean ? What is it telling me ? Thanks.

jramos1,
:text-welcomeconfetti: to the Mitchell Reel Museum.
There have been several discussions concerning those "extra" numbers that are separate from the serial numbers. The best idea that has come up, I believe, is that they are casting marks made by the companies that made the frames for the reels.
Just my opinion.
