Mitchell 508

Hello Mates,

Today I went fishing and took a 508 combo with me for the first time .
I was surprised how easy and smooth I could cast a light spoon with it .
After a few minutes i got a first strike and a little pike lost the battle on the 508 combo
a few small perch followed .
A joy to fish with

Looks like fun Dries. I’ve never tried mine. I don’t have a light action forked foot reel seat rod.

HI sandman,

It was good fun ,you should try yours !
These combo,s turned out as a failure for Mitchell but are a dream to collectors .
About 80% of the production went to the U.S !

Hi Ted

they are good eating but we do catch and release only

Hello Dries and Mates,
Dries, a very nice looking combo and a great fish too! That looks like a European distribution Balzer rod in beautiful condition and obviously a very nice Mitchell 508. Is the 508 a Dual or a Garcia distro reel?? I have several 500 series Mitchell user reels (508, 500 and 510) and rods but haven't tried them yet. They're all lined up and ready to go; so probably in the Spring. Thanks for the informative inspiration and sharing the great photos!

Kind Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,

The combo that i have used was a 508 Special and a Conolon 231 E1 3-14 gr Albatros 1.65 m rod.
I have a few of these rods so I used the one with some wear on it.
It is an ultra light combo to cast 5 gr lures .

I hope to see pictures if you going to try yours

regards Dries
