Last years flounder season I caught 366 flounder with only 5 keepers 18" and up. This season the first 4 days I caught 28 with 3 keepers 2 @ 18" & 1 @ 20". Yesterday the 300's got a work out catching 55 with no keepers, and one Stargazer. Before last year I never knew of such a fish. When touching the top fins, it can give you an electrical shock. I have now caught 4, yesterdays was huge guessing about 6 pounds. Today I be cleaning up the gear, and adding a coat of Corrosion Block.
Thought I'd share what a stargazer looks like. First picture is the one I caught yesterday, second from the internet.

don309,
I have a tip for fishing Mitchell 300 reels in salt water.
When done fishing, remove the spool with the damp salt water soaked line from the reel.
Then remove the spindle, drag nut, washer, spring, etc., from the spool.
Soak the remaining spool and line in fresh water.
Allow the spool and line to dry before reuse.
Its nice that the Mitchell 300 spools are plastic and well suited to the effects of the salt.

Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Bill :tup

don309,
That starglazer is one ugly fish. Have you tried eating one?

Did the Stargazer give a good fight?

How deep was it when it hit your bait?

Are you going to eat it?

I went fishing today, oh excuse me, I went boating today!

That is what boat fishing is called when you don’t get any fish ...

Glen,
I'm guessing about 10 to 12 foot of water, I was fishing off the wall of the inlet. No fight I thought I was snagged, I was trying to get off it. Finally held the reel spool and pulled and it came free. It was like pulling 10 lbs. of sea weed till it was coming straight up, than a little tail action.
No I threw it back.

I did a goggle on the stargazer, and it turns out to also be known as monk fish. Guess I will try the next one I catch.
