I have read article's posted by Wallace and could not find answer to recent discovery. I have two Garcia Mitchell 300's which were painted black, don't know if by factory or done after, one has just a 3 on foot other has 4 on foot. Also what is a post telling what cosmetic changes were made with different models. Thank You for looking.

Schrack,
The earliest versions of the Mitchell did not serial numbers, but they would not have had either Garcia, or 300 engraved on the side plate. When they did start putting serial numbers they could be found either on the reel foot, or the back of the gear case.
If you broke the foot off a Mitchell 300 and ordered a spare part, they didn't have serial numbers anywhere on them.
My guess, is that if there isn't a serial number on either the foot, or the back of the gear case, you have replaced reel bodies.
There is another possibility, but it would involve using early bodies and later side plates, and replaced full bails.
I hope this helps.
If you want to post some, good, clear pics of all side of the reels, it might help getting an answer to your question.
Regards,
Ted Lanham
