Hello, I've been buying up Mitchell reels at swap meets and yard sales for years now but I have never got into the history until recently. I found a reel with a "5" on the foot and started to research it. After reading a little bit on this site I think I may have found a rare one? It is still in good working condition. I would love to hear some incite on this reel and maybe get an idea of the rarity. I will post some pics as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for reading and have a good one!

Greetings Fishwolf,
Welcome to the Mitchell Reel Museum.
Without seeing some pictures to get an idea what the vintage of your reel might be, I have to ask if there might be a serial number stamped on the back of the reel case?
Sometimes, if a reel has a bunch of build-up on it, a serial number can be a bit hard to find.
Just a single digit on the reel seat, many consider to be just a foundry mark.

Regards,
Ted Lanham
