I have a Mitchell 308 reel that I have used for 40 plus years. I got it from an Uncle that gave up fishing 40 some years ago.
My question is, the age. When I look under the Dating of the reel it shows 1956 for a SN: of 1214900, when I look under Models it shows the earliest Mitchell 308 is 1959-198?.
I was pretty young when my Uncle got this reel (and a rod), and I believe (if my memory serves me right) he got it in the mid 60s. If this is true this reel sat around in the box new somewhere for a number of years before being purchased.
Can anyone please help explain the age to me.

Jeff, :sSig_welcome4: to Mitchell Reel Museum!!

Your uncle's reel was produced in 1972...We know this from the serial number...the dating guide you used does not apply to the UL (308/309/358/408/409/508) series reels. Let us know if you have further questions...they are great little reels.

Thank you. That makes more sense to me then what I had posted. I was thinking mid 60s, but 72 does make sense.
Your right, these are great little reels. I have received other reels as gifts, and I always go back to the 308. Thank you again for the reply. God bless you.
