I picked up a reel with the serial number 3008711 with a-2 at the end, I looked on the dating sheet but I did not see that number sequence. I see the 1959 ended in 2959786 and the 1960 started with 3067452, so where does this reel fit in at? thanks

jlslavey,
This is what Wallace states in the "Dating" link, "Gaps between the serial numbers I give are ones I’ve not found and documented. Therefor these gaps in serial numbers could be the years before or after. Please use this as a general dating guide only!"

Mates,
I'm kind of confused by this question. :sFun_bricks:

jlslavey, are you saying that you found a reel (I am assuming its a 300) with a serial number that has eight characters -
30087112?

Kind Regards,
Bill :tup

Bill,
I assumed that he was talking about the "2" not being a part of the serial number.

Hello GreatLaker, I think what jlslavey is trying to get across is that the serial no. In question is seven numbers with a space of varying distance after it and then a stand alone number that is not part of the serial number. I believe I've seen that on a few reels in particular the 300, in fact if I get the time to check I may have one like that. Hope that helps answer the question ? Best regards, John in Pa. :sCh_fisherman:

Yes, the reel is a 300, the question regarding the serial number is that according to the chart it would not be listed. The -2 was just a number also on the foot of the reel.

Thanks, I was just confused about the number not being in the chart.

So based on the information you all have shared am I to assume the reel is somewhere between 1959-1960?

jlslavey,
Yep, it was, probably, made in late 1959, or early 1960.
Wallace also states "Please use this as a general dating guide only!", so it's just his best estimate.

Ted Lanham
