I just came across this Mitchell half bail and would like to know if there is a way to id the year manufactured? It looks like the serial number on it is B68341. If I read the page on dating I guessing this is a 1953 maybe? I do know that the handle is spring loaded to flip it in for storage, other than that there is nothing else I can tell you about it. Thanks

jlslavey,
I'd say you have a reel that was produced in late 1952, based on Wallace's dating. I can't tell if you have the correct handle, but the plastic knob is later than the reel.
You can look at the handle pictures that Jeremy Fisher posted in the discussion about half bails and determine which your reel has.
I like these old half bails, and I think that they are under appreciated for fishing.
