I have a question about the 306. Recently I had a guy try to sell me a 306 that he said was manufactured 1n 1955. According to him someone from the Mitchell museum told him that the serial number dated it to 1955. According to my research the 306 wasn't manufactured until 1958. He said he was told it was very rare. Am I missing something?

Get pictures and post them here. No bigger than 800 megapixel. Then you will get an honest answer.

First advertisements were 1959...first production year was 1958 (July 1958 - June 1959)...

Thanks Sandman, the sn. he gave me was 010454. I told him I thought it might be a first version circa 1958. He still said it was 1955 and after that he never emailed me back.

I remember seeing that one on the big site...it was not in good condition and he was asking way too much...it is a very early 306...don't recall ever seeing an earlier one...my earliest is 040xxx...

Not sure how he comes up with 1955...

It's funny because he says he got his information from the Mitchell Reel Museum. Anyway he answered an ad I had on Craigslist. Funny again there is another add on Craigslist for a 306, this time ad says it is a 1954 vintage. I don't think it is same guy. I am not sure how these people are dating their reels.

Very common for people to incorrectly use the 300 dating guide on this site and apply it to all Mitchell reels...not sure if that is what these sellers have done...the guide does not apply to 306, 302, round body, and others.

I just realized it is the same guy selling on the big site as I was dealing with here at home. He is using the guide on this site to date his 306 reels. Everyone just has to do their research before buying something.

Just found another ad on the big site which he quotes Wallace Carney as to it's vintage. I don't think he should be doing that, just my opinion.
