I came across a reel with box while searching for something else. Will post pictures of it. It's a 406 roller bail Special in European box with P. R. REMOVED in blue stamped ink. Early round knob smooth handle, high speed. .Planomatic removed would mean cross wind. Any guesses as to why they just didn't print that? The bottom of box is for a 306. Haven't checked serial numbers yet. No space for spare spool either. Have paperwork for a 406. Black rubber bail bumper. Thanks.

Here are some photos of box and reel. Serial numbers match to reel and box but originally 306 bottom.

Hello Kim , I am almost positive that the gearing in the reel that you have pictured is Planomatic from what I see. I believe the large bridge type piece and planetary ring get removed and you have to install a crosswind disc to make it crosswind,l may be wrong but I'm sure if you look at the schematics of any of the reels that you can change over you'll see what I'm saying. Best regards , John in Pa.

Thanks for the reply John. Cold and windy here in NY. Looked at the schematics and it does appear to be Planomatic gearing. :sCo_huhsign: Now if the reel has not been touched, no marks on red screw, what the heck does P.R. mean???? According to Dennis Roberts Guide this 1st came out in 1965 with tungsten guide and was changed way later on around 1977 like Chris's reel has. European released too. If not planomatic removed could it mean Puerto Rico??? Thanks for any help...

Hi Kim , Can only see a small portion of the rotor and I think I see what is the dead end of a full bail on your reel . You also say that is has a black bail bumper. Just a thought but maybe the reel at one time had a PUM and that designates that it was changed or removed. Another Mitchell mystery? Best regards John in PA.
