MITCHELL 2250RD

Post by Bonaventure »

Good Day Mates,

I have received a new Mitchell, this morning. It is a rear drag version, Model is 2250RD. I assume the RD stands for Rear Drag. It says "ASSEMBLY IN FRANCE" on the underside of the foot. There is no spare spool, documents or original packaging.

When I looked up the Model, I see that it was only made in 1986. The reel is in used condition, no parts missing that I can see, original finish with a bit of chipping. The bail trip needs to be adjusted, the trip doesn't engage, but when you touch it with the hand, the spring brings the bail around. The reel is very smooth turning.

I have taken the handle off, I was going to crack the case and clean and lubricate the reel, but am waiting for a response.

Is this model rare? Should i leave it alone. Should someone be interested in it for a collection, I could be willing to trade for a different Mitchell, or 2, depending on what the reel is worth. Or, should I just service it and use it?

Best wishes,

Hello Glen,
I think you are confusing two reels, the 2250RD and the 2550RD.
The 2250RD was produced in 60,414 units from 1983 to 1986 (83/151 - 84/28257 - 85/19406 - 86/12600).
The 2550RD was produced in 3,520 units in 1986.
I don't have the data above 1986.
Enclosed a photo of the 1984 SAV
Best regards,
Christian

Thank you Christian,

It is a 2250RD. It has been used, should I continue using it?

The plastic spool has taken on a gray colour, like I see on the plastic rotor of 320s, I expect this is caused by sunlight.

Thanks for your response.

Glen
